My grandfather, William Perrin Winder married Mary Connolly in Coventry in 1932. He had moved over from Dublin, Ireland presumably to find work. In 1930, he is listed as a lodger with Mrs Dora Phillips at 84 Whoberley Avenue, Coventry.
Born, the 11th of May 1909 at Maisonette, Cowper Gardens in Dublin, he and his two sisters; Helen Joan and Naenie Joyce grew up in Rathmines. Prominent family members in their lives were their Aunt Bessie and Uncle Frank. Elizabeth, a registered nurse came and went working at different locations throughout the UK. Francis, worked as a GP in Glasnevin, and was known for riding his horse and trap around town until the motor car dominated and riding through the streets was no longer possible.
After his mother’s death in December 1924, and his father’s second marriage to Josephine Kavanagh in 1927, he decided he wanted to leave Ireland. Exactly when this took place is unknown but I would estimate it to be 1928 or 1929.
After marrying Mary, they moved to 76 Hartington Crescent, Earlsdon in Coventry. By 1939, they were living at 13 Leasowes Avenue, Coventry. At some point after 1948 they moved again to 21 Blondvil Street, Coventry.
